What we want students to take away from homework assignments and what students actually take away do not always align. To address this issue we will work to understand what meaningful learning is and use this understanding to outline our learning goals for students engaging in homework assignments. Applying this framework, we will evaluate assessment items to determine if they align with our goals and explore strategies for creating homework items that promote meaningful learning. Time permitting, we will discuss the importance of constructive feedback on homework as a component of meaningful student learning.
