Finite fields are finite collections of things which it makes sense to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. They are of interest in Galois theory, algebraic number theory, and other areas of pure mathematics. In this talk, we will define finite fields, construct examples, and present a real-life application of finite fields to the recovery of data on computers.
