In many applications, one is interested in a topological groupoid whose object and arrow spaces are not smooth manifolds yet do come equipped with a natural notion of smoothness. Often, this notion of smoothness can be understood by giving each space the structure of a differentiable or differentiable stratified space. In this talk, we will discuss differentiable spaces, differentiable stratified spaces, and differentiable stratified groupoids. We will give examples of naturally occurring differentiable stratified groupoids and consider some of the consequences of these structures.
