In this talk, I will introduce the moduli space of K3 surfaces. Specifically, the goal will be to introduce the Bailey-Borel compactification of a certain ball quotient and its relationship to the moduli space of K3 surfaces. If there is time, I will discuss degenerations, Kulikov models (type III), and recent work by Alexeev and Engel (2023) on the KSBA compactification of the moduli of K3 surfaces.
