Like many mathematicians, I enjoy analyzing how my favorite things work (often to extreme degrees). In this talk we'll play around with some of the mathematics of origami. How can we fold paper? More fundamentally, what does it even mean to fold it? And once it's folded, what questions can we ask? In this talk we'll mess around with solving polynomials, the difference between local and global properties, and maybe even get to (flat-)fold some paper.
