D. Peterson introduced the notion of "minuscule elements" in Weyl groups. This is a generalization of Grassmannian permutations in symmetric groups. This talk introduces minuscule elements, generalized Young diagrams, and their hook formulae. These are generalizations of the ordinary hook formula for Young diagrams.

Insertions and deletions are operations in a model of synchronization errors in coding theory. This talk introduces relations between such operations and mathematics, in particular, minuscule objects of Weyl groups and combinatorics.
