Didja know every positive integer is a sum of four squares? Nifty. We'll warm up by deciding which integers are representable as a sum of two squares using properties of the Gaussian integers, then mimic the process using similar properties of the Hurwitz quaternions. The only background assumed is some algebra (e.g. we'll be showing that every one-sided ideal of the Hurwitz quaternions is principal).
