Requirements for COVID-19

As a matter of public health and safety, all members of the University of Colorado Boulder community and all visitors to campus must follow all university, department, and building requirements, and all public health orders in place to reduce the risk of spreading infectious disease. In particular, the University of Colorado Boulder requires masks in classrooms and laboratories regardless of vaccination status.  Students who fail to adhere to these requirements must leave class, and students who do not leave class when asked or who refuse to comply with these requirements will, on their first offence, have their letter grade for the course reduced by a full letter grade, and be referred to Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution https://www.colorado.edu/sccr/.  On the second offense, their letter grade for the course will be an F, and they will be referred again to Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution.  For more information, see the policy on classroom behavior https://www.colorado.edu/policies/student-classroom-course-related-behavior and the Student Code of Conduct https://www.colorado.edu/sccr/.

If you require accommodation because a disability prevents you from fulfilling these safety measures, please follow the steps in the Disability section below.

Again, the University of Colorado Boulder currently requires masks in classrooms and laboratories regardless of vaccination status. This requirement is a precaution to supplement the University of Colorado Boulder’s COVID-19 vaccine requirement. Exemptions include individuals who cannot medically tolerate a face covering, as well as those who are hearing-impaired or otherwise disabled or who are communicating with someone who is hearing-impaired or otherwise disabled and where the ability to see the mouth is essential to communication. If you qualify for a mask-related accommodation, please follow the steps in the Disability section below. In addition, vaccinated instructional faculty who are engaged in an indoor instructional activity and are separated by at least 6 feet from the nearest person are exempt from wearing masks if they so choose.

If you feel ill and there is a possibility you might have COVID-19, if you have tested positive for COVID-19, or if you are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated and have been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19, you should stay home and follow the further guidance of the Public Health Office https://www.colorado.edu/health/public-health/quarantine-and-isolation (contacttracing@colorado.edu). If you are fully vaccinated and have been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19, the University of Colorado Boulder does not require you to stay home, even though staying home may be a prudent choice for preventing the spread of COVID-19; the University only requires that you should self-monitor for symptoms and follow the further guidance of the Public Health Office https://www.colorado.edu/health/public-health/quarantine-and-isolation (contacttracing@colorado.edu).

Attendance

Classroom attendance is required.

In addition to new material, quizzes, and exams, important course information will be given in class, which may include review sheets and practice exams.  If you miss a class, please contact another student in the class to obtain information about what was covered, what materials were given, etc.

Due to the fact that the course is starting remote, and may need to go remote later in the semester, you are required to have a working camera and microphone for this course.

During remote classes, you will be required to have your camera turned on for the duration of each class, and the microphone must be working so that you can answer questions. You will be required to have your camera turned on, and your microphone functioning, to receive credit for any assignments completed in class.

Missed exams and assignments

You may miss an exam or assignment only in the case of an emergency. I will require documentation within one week of your return to class.

Religious observance

If you have a conflict with a scheduled exam, or assignment, because of a religious observance, please submit to me a letter within the first two weeks of class indicating this so that a make-up exam, or extended deadline, can be arranged.

Disability

If you qualify for accommodations because of a disability, you must submit to me a letter from Disability Services within the first two weeks of class so that your needs can be addressed. Disability Services determines accommodations based on documented disabilities.

Classroom behavior

Students and faculty each have responsibility for maintaining an appropriate learning environment. Those who fail to adhere to such behavioral standards may be subject to discipline.

Class rosters are provided to me with students' legal names. I will gladly honor your request to address you by an alternate name or gender pronoun.

Statement on discrimination, harassment, and retaliation

Academic integrity and honor code

All students are responsible for knowing and adhering to the Academic Integrity Policy of the University of Colorado. Violations will not be tolerated.

Students caught cheating will, on their first offense, receive a zero for the given assignment, and have their letter grade for the course reduced by a full letter grade.  On the second offense, their letter grade for the course will be an F.  This policy, as with all the policies for the course, may be changed at any time for any reason.
