Incompletes
The policy of the College of Arts and Sciences
governing the assignment of grade I (incomplete) is:
To be eligible for a grade of I a student must
- request the incomplete,
- have satisfactorily completed a significant
portion of the course, and
- have extenuating circumstances beyond his/her
control that prevent the student from completing the
course within the normal time frame.
In my courses,
- "a significant portion" means: at least half.
- "satisfactorily completed" means: completed with a passing grade.
An I grade is not granted in the situation where a student
has fallen behind, but missed the drop date. The correct procedure
in this case is for the student to petition the dean for permission to
drop the course after the drop date.
