Course Outline:
In this course you will learn basic mathematical skills
necessary in business, finance, and in every branch of the
sciences (Chaps. 2--5, 8.1-8.3.)

Prerequisites:
Math 102 or appropriate placement score.

Credit:
Math 111 satisfies the mathematics component of the quantitative
reasoning general education requirement. Math 111 or its equivalent
is required for students who want to take Math 205 (Calculus I).

Homework, Quizzes and Exams:
During the semester there will be regularly assigned homework,
weekly quizzes, three in-class tests and a combined sections
final exam. Your grade will be based on your homework notebook,
quiz scores, and exam results. These components of your grade
will be weighted according to the following formula.

  Grade = HW(15%) + Quiz(20%) + T1(15%) + T2(15%) + T3(15%) + F(20%)

Late work is not accepted. I will not give make-up quizzes, but
I will not count your two lowest quiz scores.

Scoring:
Written work will be judged on the basis of completeness, legibility
and correctness. Strings of formulas without explanation will not be
accepted. Paragraph organization (where appropriate), complete
sentences and correct punctuation are expected.

Dates:
Quizzes/Tests: Every Wednesday Spring Break: March 13--19
MLK, Jr. Day: January 17 Test 3: April 19
Test 1: February 9 Last Day of Class: April 24

I am available during the office hours listed above and also at
many other times. If you can't see me during office hours, then
make an appointment with me to see me at a different time. I will
also give short answers to questions sent by email.
