and Their Applications

The working meeting "Modes, modals, related
structures, and their applications"
is intended to highlight recent developments in the
theory of modes (idempotent and entropic algebras) and modals
(semilattice-ordered modes), and interactions with algebra,
geometry, combinatorics and other disciplines. The aim of the meeting is to
bring together researchers working in these areas, and provide a forum for
participants to meet, to share with others their recent results, and to work
together in an informal atmosphere.
Topics we expect to be considered include the following:
- Algebraic aspects of modes (structure, classification,
varieties, clones, representations).
- Modals (modals of submodes, semilattice modes,
semimodules and semirings).
- Categorical aspects of modes and modals.
- Applications and relations to other areas:
- Algebra (rings and modules);
- Geometry (affine, convex and differential);
- Combinatorics (codes, quasigroups, quandles);
- Functional Analysis;
- Algebraic Topology (homotopy theory, knots);
- Computer Science, Physics and Biology.
The schedule will consist of 2 or 3 general talks in the mornings,
followed by afternoon seminars.
