profile for Alonso Delfin at Mathematics, Q&A for people studying math at any level and professionals in related fields

I am currently a Burnett Meyer Fellow working with Carla Farsi in the Department of Mathematics at CU-Boulder. My general research interests lie in the field of functional analysis. In particular, I study algebras of operators acting on Banach spaces (often focusing on `L^{p}` spaces). I am also interested in abstract harmonic analysis, specifically on `L^{p}`-operator algebras of certain groups and in the applications of operator algebras to wavelets.

In June 2023, I received my PhD from the University of Oregon where I worked under the supervision of Chris Phillips. My doctoral dissertation introduces a generalization of Hilbert `C^{**}`-modules for `L^{p}`-operator algebras. A pdf version of my PhD thesis can be downloaded by clicking here.

I have a master's degree in Mathematics from CINVESTAV IPN. My master's thesis is a review on distinct functional calculi, including an application of the Borel Functional Calculus to group representation theory. Here's a link to my thesis, which is written in Spanish.

I also hold a bachelor's degree in Applied Mathematics from ITAM. My thesis is a comprehensive review of elliptic functions, focusing especially on the Weierstrass theory and its connections with the lemniscate function. Here's a link to my thesis, also written in Spanish.

I was born and raised in Mexico City. In most Spanish speaking cultures, people traditionally have 2 last names. The first is the paternal last name (apellido paterno), the father's first last name, and the second is the maternal last name (apellido materno), the mother's first last name. In my case, my paternal last name is Delfín, while my maternal last name is Ares de Parga, which is a composite one. I do not have a middle name.
