Potential Extra Credit! If you find it hard to roll out of bed by
11AM and you've missed one too many quizzes, here's your chance to earn back
some of those points.
- What you do: Write a 200-250 word paper on something math-related.
- What you get: Up to 5 points per paper, maximum of 20 points total (that
means you could write 4 perfect papers or 5 almost papers)
- Rules and Regulations: Papers must be HANDWRITTEN, i.e. no cut
and paste from Wikipedia. You can use any source you want, but include a list of
sources. Maximum of 1 paper per student per week.
- Potential Topics: Famous mathematicians -
Newton, Leibniz,
Riemann, Cauchy,
Archimedes, Galois, ...; Math in current events; Historically important concepts
like limits, zero, the number e,...; Your plan of action for revising how
math is taught in grade schools; Anything math-related your clever mind can
come up with! (although you might want to run the wierd ideas by me first)
- Addendum: No more Newton. He is now off limits. Archimedes is also
starting to wear his welcome thin.
