SEATTLE (AP) - Coach Doug Norris had this to say after the game: "Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue." In the wildest Cup Finals game of the season, the Seattle Rainiers needed a late goal by Dany Heatley to eke out a 5-4 win over the Florida Hellcats, taking a two-games-to-one series lead in their best-of-seven series. The Rainiers built up a 3-0 lead by the end of the first period, and things looked as if it would be a reversal of Game Two's Florida blowout. "Looking back, we definitely relaxed a bit, and it almost cost us," said Seattle's Chris Drury. Mike Modano got things going for the visitors, notching a shorthanded goal. Petr Sykora converted on the power to get the Hellcats within one, but Patrick Marleau regained Seattle's two-goal lead early in the third, and the game was over. Or was it? Robert Reichel and Petr Sykora snapped shots past Vesa Toskala to tie the game with 12:41 remaining, stunning a Key Arena crowd into silence. Dwayne Roloson, who had entered the game for Marty Turco in the first, then stoned Seattle shooters for several minutes. Then lightning struck - Heatley's shot from the slot tipped off Roloson's blocker and into the net for the winger's eighteenth of the postseason. The Rainiers then closed things out - with a few frightful moments - by holding Florida off the board for the last 6:32. Game Four will again be at Seattle's Key Arena, starting at 10:00 pm PDT Saturday evening (1:00 am EDT Sunday morning). NetMeeting 24.10.252.238. STARBUCKS THREE STARS OF THE GAME: 1. Dany Heatley, Seattle - two goals, including game-winner, assist 2. Petr Sykora, Florida - two goals including game-tier midway through third 3. Mike Modano, Florida - shorthanded goal, two assists, 12-for-18 faceoffs RAINIERS NOTES: * Seattle's Mike Keane, playing for the first time since the conference quarterfinals due to a Tyler Wright upper-body injury, apparently doesn't like Florida's Tie Domi. Even if he did before the game, he doesn't now. Domi and Keane combined for sixteen penalty minutes in the first half of tonight's game alone, including a long, drawn-out fight late in the first period. Although Domi clearly had the upper hand, Keane's guts and moxie inspired his teammates, who scored twice in the next minute of play to take the 3-0 lead. * Winger Kirk Maltby has four goals in the Farley Cup playoffs this spring. Three have occured while short-handed, causing Seattle's coach Doug Norris to joke after the game that he'd rather decline all penalties and just skate down a man the entire game. "Look at the numbers," Norris said. "We've got sixteen power play goals in the playoffs, and that's pretty impressive. But we've got seven short handed goals. That's the reason we're here [in the Finals]." * With the win tonight, the Rainiers set a club record for wins in one postseason, with fourteen. Their previous high of thirteen was set in the spring of 1998, when they fell to the Brooklyn Gulag in five games in the Cup Finals. "It's obviously nice to get as many wins as we can," said defenseman Vladimir Malakhov, the only remaining player from that 1998 run. "But fourteen wins isn't our goal. Sixteen is."
