Some financial support will be available for students and unsupported faculty. To request funding, be sure that you register by January 28.

We have reserved blocks of 32 (single and double) rooms at the Best Western University Lodge and of 13 rooms at the Econo Lodge. Both hotels are downtown, very close to campus. The room rates are $95-$99/night at the Best Western, and $75-$79/night at the Econo Lodge. The blocked rooms will only be held until February 13, so be sure to book before then. When reserving your room, please tell them you're part of the Western Algebraic Geometry Symposium.

Those who are requesting funding should share double rooms.

By air: The closest airport to Davis is the Sacramento International Airport (SMF). It is roughly a half hour drive from Davis, and most major western airports have direct flights. From the airport, one can take Davis Airporter (reservation required) or SuperShuttle, or drive. Both of these offer substantial discounts for additional passengers, so if you know you are sharing a flight with other WAGS attendees, it is best to reserve a shuttle together.

Rarely, it may be more convenient to fly into Oakland or San Francisco and take BART to Richmond and then Amtrak to Davis, or drive.

By car: The UC Davis campus and Davis downtown are both directly adjacent to Interstate 80, using the UC Davis and Richards Blvd exits. Here is a map. All parking lots on the UC Davis campus are free on weekends, although portions may occasionally be reserved for special events. The lecture hall is an easy walk to the hotel, but if you are driving directly to campus, the quad parking lot (shown on the above map) is closest.

Food: There are many restaurants in downtown Davis. On the higher end are Tucos, Seasons and Mustard Seed (offers brunch until 1:00 on weekends). Other options include Cafe Bernardo, Zen Toro, Manna Korean BBQ, Hometown Chinese Food, and many Indian, Thai and pizza restaurants. Icekrimski Cafe serves gelato.

In addition, there is a Farmers Market on Saturdays until 1:00, with several lunch stands. For more information on restaurants, see the DavisWiki.

The Western Algebraic Geometry Symposium traces back its origin to the Utah - UCLA Algebraic Geometry Seminar started in 1989 by H. Clemens, D. Gieseker, M. Green, J. Kollár, and R. Lazarsfeld. Later on, it became the Utah - UCLA - Chicago Algebraic Geometry Seminar. As founding figures moved east, the original iteration of WAGS faded away, but it was revived in 2002, and has met twice annually since then.

WAGS regularly attracts 70-90 participants from the western United States and Canada. Long term planning is currently carried out by Aaron Bertram, Sebastian Casalaina-Martin, Renzo Cavalieri, Sándor Kovács, and Ravi Vakil. WAGS is funded primarily by a multiyear NSF grant. Additional funding for this meeting has been provided by the UC Davis Department of Mathematics.
