Accommodation |
---|
Conference Hotel: DoubleTree Ontario Airport Those who request funding should try to share a double room. If you have difficulty finding another person to share the room, please email us at wags-at-math.hmc.edu. Alternative Hotels: As noted below, the conference hotel is not within walking distance of HMC. (It is a short drive, and WAGS is providing group transportation.) There is a group of hotels within walking distance of HMC, but they are not highly rated. This includes a Howard Johnson, and others in its immediate vicinity. If Claremont has a less desirable neighborhood, higher in crime and so forth, this is it. However, if you would prefer a less fancy hotel, next to the freeway, but very cheap, and walking distance to campus, then feel free to make that choice. You are advised to check travel websites, such as these reviews on TripAdvisor, before doing so. |
Shuttle Service |
---|
Shuttle Service: The conference hotel's proximity to the Ontario airport makes travel between hotel and airport trivial, and travel between hotel and conference nontrivial. (It's often the reverse.) To facilitate travel between the hotel and HMC, shuttle service will provide group transportation for everyone (in groups up to 45 per trip). Scheduled departure times are as follows. Trip 1: Depart Hotel 8:15am -- Arrive HMC 8:30am Trip 2: Depart Hotel 8:45am -- Arrive HMC 9:00am Saturday Evening Trip 1: Depart HMC 7:30pm -- Arrive Hotel 7:45pm Trip 2: Depart HMC 8:00pm -- Arrive Hotel 8:15pm Sunday Morning Trip 1: Depart Hotel: 8:30am -- Arrive HMC 8:45am Trip 2: Depart Hotel: 9:00am -- Arrive HMC 9:15am Sunday Afternoon Trip 1: Depart HMC 12:30pm -- Arrive Hotel 12:45pm Trip 2: Depart HMC 1:00pm -- Arrive Hotel 1:15pm |
Transportation |
---|
By plane: It is highly recommended that you fly
into Ontario Airport (ONT), which is close
to HMC and the conference hotel. ONT is a convenient,
small, easy to navigate regional airport. Southwest
serves ONT, often with reasonable rates. By car: Any driver surely has their own map, but note that it is easy to drive to HMC via either the 10 or 210 Freeways. By public transportation: If you fly into LAX, or are traveling from Los Angeles, public transportation is a viable alternative. From LAX, take the Union Station FlyAway bus, which makes no stops between LAX and Union Station. From Union Station, take the San Bernardino Line MetroLink Train to Claremont Station, which is a nice short walk away from HMC. Trains run on a limited schedule on weekends, so check the schedule carefully. Parking: Parking for WAGS is free, and participants should use the lot located at the intersection of Dartmouth Ave. and Foothill Blvd, which is accessible by Foothill Blvd only. This lot is at the Northwest corner of campus and is made visible on the campus map by clicking on the "parking" option. |

About WAGS |
---|
The Western Algebraic Geometry Seminar traces back its origin to the Utah - UCLA Algebraic Geometry Seminar started in 1989 by H. Clemens, D. Gieseker, M. Green, J. Kollár, and R. Lazarsfeld. Later on, it became the Utah - UCLA - Chicago Algebraic Geometry Seminar. The institutions currently participating in WAGS
include Colorado
State University, Stanford University,
the University of
British Columbia, the University of
California at Berkeley, the University of
California at Santa Barbara, the University of Utah,
Harvey Mudd College,
the University
of Washington, UC Riverside, UCLA, University
of Arizona, University of Colorado, and more. WAGS meets twice per year and congregates an international group of roughly 100 mathematicians, from students to experts in the field of Algebraic Geometry. A history of meetings within the last 10 years or so includes Fall 2002 (Utah), Spring 2003 (Stanford), Fall 2003 (Vancouver), Spring 2004 (Utah), Fall 2004 (Colorado State), Spring 2005 (Washington), Fall 2005 (Utah), Spring 2006 (Berkeley), Fall 2006 (Utah), Spring 2007 (Washington), Fall 2007 (Colorado), Fall 2008 (Utah), Spring 2009 (Berkeley). More recent meetings and a comprehensive archive of all things WAGS can be found on the central wags home page http://www.wagsymposium.org/. |
