About WAGS

The Western Algebraic Geometry Seminar traces its origins back to the Utah - UCLA Algebraic Geometry Seminar started in 1989 by H. Clemens, D. Gieseker, M. Green, J. Kollár, and R. Lazarsfeld. Later on, it became the Utah - UCLA - Chicago Algebraic Geometry Seminar.

The institutions currently participating in WAGS are Colorado State University, Stanford University, the University of British Columbia, the University of California at Berkeley, the University of California at Santa Barbara, the University of Utah and the University of Washington. Support for the conference is provided by the National Science Foundation and the participating institutions. In particular, WAGS07 would like to acknowledge additional support from the Albert C. Yates endowed chair in mathematics.

WAGS meets twice per year and congregates an international group of more than 50 mathematicians, from students to experts in the field of Algebraic Geometry. The last few meetings were: Fall 2002 (Utah), Spring 2003 (Stanford), Fall 2003 (Vancouver), Spring 2004 (Utah), Fall 2004 (Colorado State), Spring 2005 (Washington), Fall 2005 (Utah), Spring 2006 (Berkeley), Fall 2006 (Utah), Spring 2007 (Washington).

Location

The meeting will be held at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. Registration and coffee breaks will take place in the Department of Mathematics, located in the Weber building. Lectures will take place in the nearby Wagar building. Click here for a campus map and locator; both buildings are on the oval in the north-east corner of campus.

Registration

Please, help us have everything ready on time! Register as soon as you know that you will be attending. Just send an e-mail to wags07@math.colostate.edu stating your name, position, and if you will be applying for financial support.

We expect to communicate financial assistance decisions by September 1 and on a rolling basis thereafter..

Financial Assistance

Some financial support will be available for students and young unsupported faculty, with first priority going to those coming from participating institutions. Please state in your registration if you need financial assistance.

We expect to communicate financial assistance decisions by September 1st and on a rolling basis thereafter.

Accommodation

We have reserved rooms for the conference at the Armstrong Hotel (tel: (970) 484 3883 or (866) 384 3883) and the Best Western University Inn (tel: (970) 484 1984 or (888) 484 2984), which are both walking distance from CSU and downtown Fort Collins. After registering for the conference, each participant should make his/her own reservation before 19th September. The rates at the Armstrong Hotel are $74 (plus tax) for a single room, $95 (plus tax) for a suite based on single occupancy, and $105 (plus tax) for a suite based on double occupancy. The rates at the Best Western University Inn are $85 (plus tax) for a single or double room, including continental breakfast. Please mention WAGS07 to obtain these special rates.

Other options for accommodation within walking distance include The Sheldon House B&B, The Edwards House B&B, and the Fort Collins Hilton. Cheaper options, not within walking distance, can be found at hotels.com.

Transportation

You can travel to Fort Collins by airplane or by car:

By plane: Denver International Airport (we all call it DIA, but its airport code is DEN), is a destination for most airlines. Once at the airport, you can rent a car (approximately 75 minutes driving time) or ride the Shamrock Airport Express (reservation required, approximately 2 hours riding time) to Fort Collins.

By car: Major highways through Fort Collins are Interstate 25 and US 287. Here is a map showing the locations of the Armstrong Hotel and the Best Western University Inn. The Department of Mathematics (Weber Building) is located on Oval Drive within CSU.
