Oct. 06, 2015 10am (Math350)	Megan Ly (Colorado) X Since the irreducible representations of algebra groups are impractical to work with, we define a coarser approximation of the usual character theory known as a supercharacter theory. We then find a nice way to "induce" supercharacters by modifying the definition of induction to the concept of superinduction. Supercharacters and superinduction for algebra groups

One interesting object one can associate to C are the characteristic polynomial of its adjacency matrix. One can ask how it is distributed as C varies in a "nice" family of covers. Oct. 06, 2015 2pm (MATH 350)	Lie Theory Mandi Schaeffer-Fry (Metro State) X Given a finite group with size n, the Galois group Gal(Q(omega)/Q), where omega is an nth root of unity, acts naturally on the irreducible characters of G. We discuss some parametrizations for characters of groups of Lie type and the problem (and its motivation) of describing this Galois action in terms of these parametrizations.
