Quantum random walks on an integer lattice of rank k form a class of unitary (discrete time) transformations that are a nice toy model for certain quantum-mechanical operators. The amplitudes (after a large number of steps) for such random walks form typically beautiful moire patterns, whose structure and relation to singularity theory I will explain in this talk.
